So I got the dreaded email from Awardwallet warning me that my Air Canada Aeroplan miles were going to expire soon:-(

Aeroplan miles aren’t like Southwest, Delta, or JetBlue miles which never expire.  Aeroplan miles will expire 12 months if you don’t have any activity in your account.

Keeping Aeroplan Miles Alive

To keep them alive, I generally will add my Aeroplan # to one of my United flights to earn a few miles and keep them all active, but apparantely I forgot to do that over the past year.

A second option is to transfer American Express Membership Reward points to Aeroplan which will count as activity and extend all of your Aeroplan miles another 12 months.  But you have to transfer a minimum of 1000 miles – I’d rather keep Memberhip Reward points for more flexibility.

But I found a very easy way to keep Aeroplan miles from expiring.  I’m not entirely sure how long this option has been around.

Aeroplan eStore Shopping Portal

Did you know that UberEats is a part of the Aeroplan shopping portal?  I usually order UberEats every month to take advantage of the American Express Platinum’s card $15/month Uber credit.  I just place my order with the UberEats app.

But if you place your order using a web browser, you can ‘shop through’ the Aeroplan eStore and earn Aeroplan miles even at UberEats.  Here is the link directly to Aeroplan UberEats shopping portal.

It worked like a charm, I earned 58 Aeroplan miles on my June 16th UberEats order – there was even a double miles promotion going on.

&Pizza was having a buy one – get one special too.

Also, my American Express Platinum Uber credit was automatically applied to the order.

So I ended up with 2 pizzas for free along with 58 Aeroplan miles – SCORE!

Did you know about earning Aeroplan miles with UberEats?  Is there an even easier way to earn a few Aeroplan miles to keep activity on your account?

American Express Platinum

American Express's Platinum card is a high end card that offers a plethora of benefits, credits, and perks.  Currently there is a 125,000 point + 10X points at restaurants after spending $6000 in the first 6 months which can be transferred to hotel & airline partners or used for travel directly with American Express.

First, this card provides you with an automatic $15 per month ($35 in December) Uber cash in your account to use for either Uber rides or Uber Eats for a total of $200 per year.

The third credit this card also gives you is $100/year ($50 in Jan-Jun and $50 Jul-Dec) at Saks Fifth Avenue.  I've always been able to find something I needed at saks.com to make use of the credit twice a year.

The fourth credit is $100 towards Global Entry or TSA Precheck application fee (every 4 years).

The 5th credit is $179 credit for a CLEAR membership to bypass even the TSA Precheck line at airports.

Next up is $240/year ($20/month) Digital Entertainment credit - good at New York Times, Peacock, Audible, and SiriusXM.

There is a $300/year ($25/month) Equinox credit to use toward monthly fees.

Finally there is a $200 Hotel credit each year on selecte prepaid hotel bookings with American Express Travel.

In addition to the credits above, this card earns 5X points on flights booked directly with airlines or through Amex Travel and 5X points prepaid hotels booked through Amextravel.com.

Having this card also allows you access to American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program to get free breakfast, hotel credits, room upgrades, and more.

Finally having this card also gets you lounge access including American Express's own Centurion lounges, Delta Sky Club, and Priority Pass Select lounges.

The card's annual fee is $695.  Learn more and apply here.
