I’ll be heading to Paris soon on the Hyatt Paris Etoile mistake rate last summer.  I booked our flights using American Express membership reward points.  So with a place to stay and transportation booked, we just needed to plan some activities.

We have been to Paris twice before but were only there for a couple days each time and saw the main highlights.  I reached out on Facebook for some suggestions on what to do and got a lot of great suggestions.  I have booked the following activities:

Booked

Vinitour Centre-Louire

My wife’s favorite wine is Sancerre.  She found this highly rate wine tour on tripadvisor.  Sancerre is about 2 hours south of Paris.  I looked into renting a car so we could take the full day tour that starts at 9:00am, but all of the car rental agencies don’t open until 8:00am.  So we decided to take a train there and do a 3 hour tour at 2:00pm.  The last train back to Paris leaves at 6:30pm.

Cost – 55€ per person for the 3 hour tour

Dinner Cruise & Show

We saw Moulin Rouge show back in 1999 and remembered enjoying it.  18 years later and we’re going back to see it again.  I found this tour package which includes dinner on a river cruise, access to the Eiffel Tower and the Moulin Rouge show.

Highlights

  • Enjoy a lovely dinner-cruise along the Seine River (private table) through the centre of the illuminated French capital by night
  • Have a priority access ticket for the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower with fairytale views of the whole city
  • Watch the incredible “Fairy” review show at the Moulin Rouge and enjoy the amazing dance numbers
  • Sip a glass of Champagne during the Moulin Rouge cabaret show

Cost – $446.01 for 2

Paris by Mouth – Taste of the Marais

My wife also found this food tour – it also got great reviews on trip advisor.  This 3 hour walking food tour includes the following stops:

We’ll start the day with buttery croissants and crisp baguettes from an award-winning baker, then visit a family-run fromagerie where they age their own small-production cheeses. We’ll select a range of different cheeses to taste, then add to our basket by picking up some delectable saucisson from a pig-obsessed charcutier. We’ll be stopping at a quirky cave à vins to sit and sample and taste all of these with French wine. We will the wind our way to a blow-out sweets tasting at one of our favorite chocolatier in Paris (and therefore the world).

Cost – 110€ per person, including all tastings

Planning to Book

Museum Pass

I’m also thinking of getting the Paris Museum pass – you can purchase a 2 (48€), 4 (62€), or 6 (74€) day pass.

With the PARIS MUSEUM PASS, you gain free entry, without queuing* and as many times as you wish, to over 50 museums and monuments in and around Paris.

I definitely want to check out the Sewers Museum which is included with the Museum Pass.  The other famous attractions included with the pass are:

  • Arc de Triomphe (12€)
  • Musee du Louvre (15€)
  • Tours de Notre Dame (10€)
  • Chateau de Versailles (18€)

Disneyland Paris

We are definitely planning to head to Disneyland Paris one day also.  I can’t wait to see how it compares to Disney World and Disneyland California.  I found out it is reachable by metro too:  http://parisbytrain.com/rer-train-paris-to-euro-disney/.

Getting Around

When we were in Paris last summer, we mainly walked and took taxis/Ubers.  I found a site that tells you all about a weekly pass metro/train/bus pass called Navigo Découverte.  It’s only 22.15€ +5€ for the card itself.  It’s good for unlimited rides from Monday to Sunday which works out perfect since we will be arriving on a Monday morning and leaving on a Sunday morning.  I hope to become an expert on the Paris Metro by the time our trip is over.

What Else?

What else do you think we should do/not miss?  Please help us out.
