I was surprised to see a backpack at the #1 best selling item in Luggage & Travel Gear. After taking a closer look, I see why – it’s lightweight (0.7 LB), has multi compartments, breathable mesh shoulder straps, and folds into it’s own pouch.
One reviewer had some issues that she noted on an Amazon review – she then changed her review from 3 stars to 4 stars after the manufacturer contacted her to let her know about the lifetime warranty and offered to replace it or refund her money. I may get one of these for myself.

I’m not a fan of passport holders – they have space for credit cards, but I don’t keep them together so what’s the point other than ‘protection’? I also don’t need the extra weight/bulk.
But this synthetic one does come in a bunch of different colors and you can order it with a magnetic tab or an elastic band to keep it closed. It also has RFID blocking.

With a 4.8/5.0 rating on Amazon with over 6000 reviews, these packing cubes come in #3. There are 8 different colors to choose from.
I wanted to like packing cubes so much but frankly I don’t really use the ones I bought at ebags. These look to be about the same price as others but give you 4 cubes rather than 3 and also include a laundry bag which is a big plus.

Don’t be that person at the airport who has two suitcases open at the check-in counter trying to move clothes from one suitcase to another because the first was overweight by a few pounds.
And you are really cheap if you don’t want to spend $12 on this luggage scale #1 best seller and instead try to hold the suitcase on a bathroom scale to figure out the weight – do yourself a favor an just get one.

Repel Windproof Travel Umbrella with Teflon Coating
Something I will probably skip, I hate carrying an umbrella. I usually end up buying one when it starts raining – even in NYC, one only costs $5.
But on the other hand, this is Amazon’s #1 best selling rain umbrella. It automatically opens and closes with the push of a button and carries a lifetime warranty. Apparantely it was also featured on Good Morning America and came out on top of Wirecutter’s 50+ hours of testing during four different round of 33 different umbrellas.
Anyone have this? Is it worth it?

Cruise Tags Luggage Etag Holders Zip Seal & Steel Loops Thick PVC
Cruise lines have you print out your luggage tags on standard paper then simply fold and staple them to your luggage. I didn’t think anything was wrong with this method until we had a piece go missing for a few hours on our last cruise – the paper tag had ripped off and the cruise line didn’t know where to bring it.
I think I will invest in these for our next cruise so that doesn’t happen again but I won’t wear the ID holder because that looks dumb.

For roughly $50 (depending on color/print) this cotton canvas sling bag is the most expensive item on this list.
While I’m not a fan of sling bags, I would definitely use it over a fanny pack:-) Some reviewers call this the ‘perfect diaper bag’. This bag also has over 80% of the 2600 reviews are 5 stars.

Spar. Saa Double Layer Inverted Umbrella with C-Shaped Handle
I’ve always thought this inverted umbrella that folds up instead of down was a great idea. I always get drenched when trying to close a regular umbrella while getting in a car. Then further getting your car seat wet trying to put the umbrella on the floor. This umbrella solves that problem.
The C shaped handle is also a good idea so you can hold it from your wrist to free up your hand. It also comes in a bunch of colors and patterns and includes a carry bag. This will be my next purchase.

Another passport holder but this one comes with comes with many more pockets and pouches and trifolds up into a wallet.
This is not something I would carry but I could see my wife using something like this. I’m sure she would like one of the 31 available colors. There is even a pounch for a phone SIM card if you have a separate SIM for international travel.
Final Verdict – PASS
I use shoe bags all the time, I hate putting shoes in a suitcase without being in a bag – the thought of the bottom of my shoes touching clean clothing doesn’t sit well.
For less than $12, you can get 4 bags – 2 standard size that fit shoes sized 10 and under and 2 extra large bags that fits shoes up to size 14 (even boots) or two pairs of children’s shoes.
